Tanzanite is a blue variety of zoisite. It was first discovered in Tanzania in 1967, and it is considered to be the greatest gemological discovery of the last century. Tanzanite is about a thousand times rarer than a diamond. Because the resources are shrinking very quickly, forecasts indicate that the mining will end in 15-20 years.
